I had so much fun after a week long festival here in my home town ilocos sur. Kannawidan
was celebrated every 2nd day of February. With its week long celebrations, its active span is mostly the last week of January to first week of February. I may not attended every activities/program, i still felt the fun, enjoyment, and experience. The programs that i was able to go to are; Miss Ilocos sur Pageant, where in i shared this moment with my family and saw Edward from pbb, and for me this is one of my favourite moment that i captured during the festival. Another program is the Grand Celebration Night, this time i was with my Friends and this is much more fun and exciting cause many artist came and performed just like Maki, December Avenue, and one of the band member of eraserheads. I was so grateful that i was able to experience all of this fun and was hoping to experience it again.
Kannawidan not only gave me fun and excitement but also gave me lessons. Because of kannawidan festival, i learned more about my home town's culture, history and facts. History is the most important aspect of it. And I will be sharing you the history that i was able to gather. From the souvenirs and the things that they sell, you can already see the culture it self. They sell a lot of traditional clothes, town's own delicacies and of course souvenirs. For more background, Kannawidan Ylocos comes from the word tawid. Its English translation means tradition, legacy, and/or heritage. It marks the historic establishment of the province during Spanish times. Kannawidan Ylocos was first launched within the term of Deogracias Victor Savellano in 2008. It was started to promote awareness and preservation of the local culture, tradition, heritage, and customs. It was also an opportunity to showcase local products, artistry, and craftsmanship. Moreover, it was also created to boost the local tourism industry. Kannawidan Ylocos was first launched within the term of Deogracias Victor Savellano in 2008.
